Help me welcome author Savanna Ammons as she shares about her writing journey.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?”
Eight-year-old me grins, confident in my answer. “I want to own a bakery. And I’ll sing at night.”
“You’ll run the bakery during the day and sing at night?”
“Yep.”
“Wow, that’s ambitious.” My mom ruffles my hair. “Will I get a discount at your bakery?”
I purse my lips and shrug. “No, not unless you help. Maybe you can sweep the floors. Then you can get coupons.”
Mom laughs, but the spark of the idea never left my heart. I could own a bakery.
For years, I made cakes, cookies, and pies when we had family gatherings, birthdays, and any opportunity I had. I was going to be a baker.
But eventually, I got burned out—
—and my love for storytelling reignited.
Five books later, the Lord dropped my writing program, The Author Conservatory, in my lap. When I wrote my first novel through their process, by His grace He brought everything full circle. He allowed me to write a story about a baker trying to save her bakery.
The novel isn’t published yet, so I can’t share too many details here, but my sweet baker girl is one of my favorite characters. She’s exhausted and broken, but she loves what she does despite the difficulty.
(And unlike younger me, she’s generous with what little she has. Though I think I eventually decided to give Mom coupons without forcing her to do manual labor in exchange.)
I can’t wait to share this novel with the world someday, Lord willing. If you want more details, along with more about my other projects, sign up for my email list at https://savannaammons.com/updates/
About Savanna:
Savanna Ammons writes sweet Christian romances that deal sensitively and biblically with difficult topics. When she’s not writing, you can find her working the front desk at her local library, snuggling her puppy, or pouring her next batch of epoxy resin for her small business. If you want to be her friend, prepare to endure dad jokes and puns as soon as she has the opportunity.
