Lullaby By The River -- book spotlight

Temperance Johnson • July 1, 2024

Help me welcome Temperance Johnson as she shares about her writing journey and newest release.

I am so glad to be here with y’all. I am doing a festival so I will check in with y’all when I can. The festival I am doing is in Maysville, Kentucky along the Ohio River. It is a lot of fun and so beautiful.

My new book releasing in February 2025, Lullaby by the River, is set in Maysville and the Ohio River has a lot to do with the story. I love putting little things like the beehive tavern, the festivals, and special spots like that in Kentucky.

My Liberty Chronicles series is Christian historical fiction, so I am a big history buff. Even for my Amish fiction. Like Kentucky actually owns the Ohio River. (But no one likes my idea of changing the name. haha.) Because when the slaves tried to escape to freedom before the war when they were in the River, they still belonged to the south and could be caught and taken back. The Ohio River was also only 6 and 12 feet deep in some parts during that time. The dames put in it made it a lot bigger around the 1890s.

I never thought to put my Liberty Chronicles series in Kentucky. They are set in other places I love, like the Gulf of Mexico in Alabama and then in Deer Trail, Colorado. I have been to Colorado Springs, Colorado and it is so beautiful there. And of course, vacation in Alabama. So in this series I put another thing I love. Horses. My heart horse, Montana Dove, even made it on the cover of Liberty Ranch. My new release has horses in almost every scene, from Firefly to Ponder. They are very special animals to their owners. It has been fun to write, and my editors have had to tell me to help readers understand it better. I get a bit carried away when writing them. The horses also get their owners through heartfelt and healing times, like Phoenix in Liberty Ranch. That horse gets Izzy Donavon through so much. I think horses have a way of healing that God helps us with. We aren’t alone when we have them and they can help us feel when times we would rather not.

I hope y’all will want to read more in my books about my setting and my wonderful horses. Here is my little mini baby horse, Spring Ariel. She is a doll, born last week.

What is your favorite thing to read in Christian fiction? What is your favorite setting?

About Temperance:

Temperance Johnson has always loved to read and write. As one of eleven children, she began writing with their support, and it quickly became one of her favorite pastimes. The Liberty Chronicles was born out of her deep passion for adoption, family, and faith. In her free time, she works and plays with her horses and twenty-three nieces. They have both made it into her stories. She collects way too many things, probably mostly from Hobby Lobby. Drinks too much coffee and she actually watches more movies than books. She still loves to write powerful stories for the Lord.
