Help me welcome author Becca Turner as she answers tough questions and shares a sneak peek into her latest release.
First of all, I’m on my second pen name as a published author, but it’s a complicated story, so we won’t get into why, but I’m enjoying my stint as Becca Turner. I’ve been writing with this name since 2016. I used to write, erm, spicier books, but now I like to focus on the more emotionally romantic plots and outside circumstances of the stories that make the characters realistic and human. My real middle name is Rebecca, but my mom always called me Becca Sue, so I chose Becca as my first name and my great-grandma, who I’m named for, although she wasn’t the Rebecca, was originally a Turner. My mom tells me I’m a great deal like Granny Turner, who would cross the street rather than be forced to make polite small talk with someone she didn’t like. Same, Granny. Same.
I’ve enjoyed storytelling since I was a little girl. I picked up on reading right away, so storytelling came naturally after that. When I was 11, my best friend announced she wanted to be a writer. Sounded good to me, so I said, “Me too!” The idea stuck for me, although as far as I know, she’s never written a fictional novel. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my writing career, but as of right now, I’m enjoying myself and expanding my storyverse. One series is Only an Okie Will Do which are contemporary western romance that are closed door but have a bit of language. I think my grandma, who also loved reading romance, would be okay with them as I like to call them sweet with heat. The other is Only an Okie Will Do Historical Novels which are sweet westerns set in the same fictional small town in Oklahoma as the contemporaries.
On January 16th my next contemporary comes out on all the popular reading platforms except KU. One February 14th, my next sweet historical romance is available on Kindle and KU. After that, I have my schedule for 2024 mostly filled up. I’m hoping to get out a cookbook with recipes that my characters have mentioned in my books, plus another contemporary novella collection, another contemporary novel, and another sweet historical by late fall. I’m also working on getting all my novels formatted for large print. I have three of them published currently with three more for sure to come in 2024. Who knows? There might be more on top of all that!

A Sneak Peek inside Where Love Begins:
Chapter One
Swells, Oklahoma Territory
1892
His brother’s wake and funeral were long over. The fields below the house were planted with acres of corn, which wouldn’t mature for a few more weeks. Two horses and a milk cow lazed in a sturdy corral beyond the barn. A flock of sheep grazed nearby under a collie’s watchful eye.
Numbness filled August Baxter as he reined his horse to a stop on the crest above his brother’s farm. Jeremiah had been careful, almost obsessive, with his equipment, clothes, and possessions. Even the split rail fences looked sturdy and the road didn’t have a single hole. Jeremiah liked perfection. August didn’t know the first thing about it. A lump formed under his ribcage.
His gelding lifted its head and called out to the other horses. They answered, gathering at the fence for a better look. The dog noticed them and barked a warning.
He rode on despite the dog and turned the gelding down the path. White clapboard covered the single-story house and green shutters framed the windows. A wide covered front porch welcomed visitors to sit and stay a spell, but it was empty. Beautiful as the place was, it had cost his brother’s life. If August hadn’t been so stubborn, this might have been a joyful homecoming.
Before he reached the yard, the front door opened and a woman stepped outside. His hands tightened on the reins. Loyal Redfearn haunted his dreams and filled hundreds of lonely hours in his mind.
A gray shawl wrapped around her shoulders, covering her black mourning dress. Auburn hair done up and tucked into a coronet showed off the sickly pale color of her face. Someone had been caring for the livestock until he arrived. He’d never guessed it would be her.
He had mixed feelings about whether he should be glad she was here, or whether he ought to turn around and cut his losses. Although she’d written for his help, he wasn’t prepared to face her. Wasn’t prepared for the way his heart lurched when their eyes met. Just like the day he’d realized he was in love with her, he lost himself all over again.
About Becca:
Becca Turner was raised in Missouri except for a couple of formative years in SW Oklahoma that left her with an Okie accent. One day she was reading cowboy romance novels and wondered why they’re all set in Texas. Then she set out to do something about it.
She lives in Missouri with her husband and two Japanese chin dogs, Winkie and Maisy.
