Turtle Doves and the Christmas Season

Betty J. Slade • December 9, 2023

Help me welcome author Betty J. Slade as she shares another of her paintings, and her book.

Taming Wild Hearts, Book One of the Disappointment Valley Series is a perfect way to spend your holidays. Tucked away, a fire in the fireplace, delightful aromas wafting from soup on the stove, preparing for family to come home for the holidays.

What a Winner! A Fun Compelling Story & Romance for all Ages

What a Winner! I thoroughly enjoyed this book!! The Mystery is intriguing; the Romance tender, fun, and tantalizing; the story of this special, endangered breed of horses not only enlightens, but is heartrending and brings a sense of urgency to their fate .
Slade's characters really came to life for me and made me cheering and crying for them; her setting on a Western ranch in the Colorado mountains was fresh and compelling, and for me, nostalgic for a simpler life free from the outside pressures that keep trying to destroy a way of life that is unique, special, and beautiful; the writing is so good and professional that it sucks you into the story as if these are real people you care deeply about and fear for, as they confront generational secrets and external dangers that threaten their family and its way of life.
I highly recommend this excellent story for readers of all ages, from young adult through old-timers like me, and am eager to read Slade's promised two sequels and reconnect with the lives of these new friends. ~~  C. Neal Johnson

Turtle Doves are seasonal birds. Perfect for this time of the year when Angels are singing, “Holy, Holy, Holy,” and we are bid to join the heavenly choir and enter into their song. The Lord says in Jeremiah the turtle dove knows their season but my people do not know theirs.

The beloved calls to the Shulamite, "Arise, come away with me... The turtle dove is heard in the land, the winter has gone." Yes, the Christ child has been born and resurrection life has come to earth.

Like the white dove, the Holy Spirit is alive, spontaneous, and moves through our lives all year long. He comes to us with spirit kisses from heaven. The Word of God is the kiss from the mouth of our beloved breathing upon us the revelation of His Love through the Spirit.

Many of us are like the little Shulamite, we hear Him call, but we are too busy tending our vineyard, too worried about the little foxes who will destroy our vines.

He wants us to let go of our vineyard and allow Him to take us into His vineyard. One is earthly, the other spiritual. One has temporal, the other eternal value. One is by faith, the other by sight.

The Holy Spirit, during this season, is nudging us to leave the business and traditions that so easily hold us down and be carried into union with Christ and join the heavenly choir and sing, “Holy, Holy, Holy.”
