Today I welcome author Janice Cole Hopkins as she shares about the next book in her series. Stick with us, because she is offering a giveaway at the end of the post.
Go ahead, Janice.
The last time I joined you here, I talked about A Bird in the Hand, the first book in the Idioms & Clichés. Today, I’ll like to share the second book in the series. Going the Extra Mile released yesterday. Of all my books, I think this might be my favorite cover, and if sales are any indication, readers like it too.
The idiom, "go the extra mile," actually comes from the Bible. In Matthew 5:41, Jesus says, "And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain." He's encouraging people to be generous, kind, and helpful, beyond what is expected or asked. The followers of Christ should have a giving spirit. The couple in the novel exhibit some of these qualities.
Going the Extra Mile features Aaron Johnson, the grandson of the couple from A Bird in the Hand. Of course, all my books have a definite ending and can be read as standalones. This novel also has a mystery included in the plot. When Aaron Johnson takes his sister back to her home in Trade, Tennessee, he gets caught in a blizzard in the Appalachian Mountains on his return trip. Finding a remote cabin, he arrives frostbitten and needing care. Meghan Scott lives with her harsh uncle, but he’s been missing for days. When a nearly frozen stranger comes to their cabin in a snowstorm, she reluctantly takes him in. However, she soon learns she has nothing to fear from the kind man trained to be a pastor, except maybe losing her heart and her reputation from harboring him. But when her uncle turns up dead, everything becomes complicated.
I know the Appalachian culture well, and this will be my seventh novel set there. I grew up in the eastern part of the Appalachians, and my father came from Ashe County, North Carolina, where Going the Extra Mile takes place. The last two novels in the book will also be set in the Appalachian Mountains. However, the next book will move to Kansas. A Few Bumps in the Road is already available for preorder.
Question for giveaway: What specific place would you like to see a historical novel set in and why? A winner will be chosen in a drawing from the comments to win a Mobi or Word copy of Going the Extra Mile.
