Good morning and thank you, Donna, for hosting me and Forced to Flee. This book is the first in my series about the men and woman of the US Marshal service located in San Antonio Texas. Though the characters do travel to various places outside of the Lone Star State. In Forced to Flee, a DNA test sends Abby Frost on the run with a handsome cowboy who turns out to be an undercover deputy marshal.

I had a lot of fun writing this book and putting my heroine and hero in jeopardy at every turn. One of the fun parts of writing a book is developing the hero and heroine. When I thought of the hero, I immediately pictured Timothy Oliphant from Justified. A commanding and handsome, cowboy type. If you’ve watched the TV series, you know his character colors outside the lines. I wanted to make my hero, Jace Armstrong, a bit edgy without crossing any lines. To do that I had to dig deep into why he became a deputy marshal. Having him follow in his father’s footsteps and trying to prove himself to his dad proved the ticket to making Jace a compelling character, throw in some angst about commitment and not wanting to disappoint, rounded him out and made him the perfect match for Abby Frost.

Abby was more of a challenge until I realized having her DNA reveal a family secret that not only put her life in danger but toppled how she viewed herself. For inspiration on Abby, I looked to actress Sara Paxton. I first noticed Sara in the teen movie Aquamarine. My daughter loved mermaids, so of course, we watched the movie about a mermaid. Sara has been in numerous other films and roles since then. There’s something very sweet yet strong-willed about this actress that I wanted to capture in my development of Abby.  For Abby to survive the ordeal she and Jace go through in Forced to Flee, she had to really step out of her comfort zone as a bank manager and tap into a fierceness she didn’t realize she possessed. Something I think we are all capable of doing.
