Today I welcome author Delores Topliff as she shares about her latest release. She is also generously offering one lucky person the chance to win a free book.
Christmas Tree Wars, my second historical novel, has been the most fun to write of the four I’ve completed. I can show you the spot on a central Minnesota farm road I drove one Sunday when I saw a scene that instantly downloaded a story. On one side, I saw a row of healthy, tall evergreen trees but one lone evergreen standing alone in a hay field on the opposite side of the road. I instantly received a story concept of an ongoing feud, fierce national White House Christmas tree competition, and winning tree swapping as lives are changed by romance and the true sentiments of Christmas.
When the two feuding Wisconsin Christmas tree farmer neighbors have financial problems, one’s son and the other’s niece come home to help. Both try to increase business by competing to provide the White House Christmas Tree, but only one can win. The year is 1966. Lady Bird Johnson is the presidential First Lady who will decorate the tree in her favorite wildflower theme. During the fierce competition, the young people begin to sacrifice for love in ways that change the warring tree growers and remind their small fictional town of Balsam, Wisconsin, of the true reasons for the season.
