Join me today as good friend and multi-published author Margaret Mizushima share about her latest release.
Two years ago my husband and I moved from our home in northern Colorado to the Pacific Northwest. Sorting and consolidating our belongings after living and working in our veterinary clinic and on our farm for forty years was a challenge…and a grueling chore. When we sold our property we hadn’t found a new place to live yet, so we packed our remaining stuff into a shipping container and a stock trailer for storage, loaded up our two German shorthaired pointers, and headed west.
Our daughter had found a rental for us a half mile from her home, and we stayed there for four months while we searched for a home in the rain shadow on the Olympic peninsula. For those of you who don’t know, the rain shadow refers to an area that runs northeast of the Olympic mountain range where it doesn’t rain as much as in the rest of the state. Storms come in from the Pacific Ocean and dump rain in the Olympic rainforest, and this weather pattern shelters the northeast side of the peninsula. Thus, the rain shadow.
We love our new home, and I’ve been fascinated by the climate. After watching the rolling mist and marine layer fill the valleys at the base of the mountains during the changing seasons, I decided to set my ninth Timber Creek K-9 Mystery in a fictional site on the Olympic peninsula instead of the familiar fictional setting of Timber Creek, Colorado.
In GATHERING MIST, one week before her wedding to veterinarian Cole Walker, Deputy Mattie Wray and her K-9 partner Robo are called to the Olympic peninsula on a search and rescue mission for a celebrity’s missing son. When one of the SAR dogs falls ill, Cole becomes worried about Robo and Mattie’s safety and decides to join the mission as the team’s veterinarian. They discover secrets that have lain hidden in the rugged terrain for years, exposing information that there is something more sinister than a lost child at play. Together they search desperately for the missing child before he disappears forever.
I invite you to join Mattie, Robo, and Cole for their adventure in the rainforest on the Olympic peninsula in GATHERING MIST, published by New York-based Crooked Lane Books. I hope you enjoy the thrills and chills in the misty, rainy, moss-covered forest of western Washington.
